Melinda Wittstock:         Katherine, welcome to WINGS.

Katherine Dean:               Hi, I’m so happy to be here. This is exciting; this is fun.

Melinda Wittstock:         It is fun. I mean, this is why I do the podcast: I get to talk to people like you who are so inspiring. And speaking of inspiration, what is inspiring you right now?

Katherine Dean:               What is inspiring me right now? You know what, how incredible women can be with their financial power in their life. That is what is inspiring me to keep going and speaking to big audiences around the country. It’s just seeing how women can shift their mindset and how they can start getting money actually working for them. And they’re incredible business owners and entrepreneurs, and they see the opportunity, they seize the opportunity and they have an incredible financial future. That’s what’s inspiring me today.

Melinda Wittstock:         That is so wonderful to see that transformation because over time we’ve all seen the context of not having equal pay or not getting our share of venture capital money or that sort of thing. What do you think some of the challenges are?

Katherine Dean:               Ooh. First, it’s our own selves. That is the … it sounds so simple, but that is the number one challenge that when I work with clients it’s talking about their money mindset and really how to shift that in a way that becomes incredible for their financial future. But it’s not just financial future; it’s their business. Everything starts to shift when you can easily talk about money. You can easily talk with your clients; you can easily talk with business partners. All of that starts to open up: That definitely is an incredible way to start earning more income in your life.

Melinda Wittstock:         Oh, absolutely. Yeah. I know. It’s so true; we get in our own way. I think that’s so true, this connection between mindset and both money and mojo.

Katherine Dean:               Oh, mojo. I love it. I love when you say mojo; I’m like yes, that’s exactly what it is.

Melinda Wittstock:         Yeah. Mindset, mojo, money. What are your top three go to pieces of advice for women who really do want to find a way to live a life of financial freedom?

Katherine Dean:               First one is, and every client will tell you, everybody that’s ever on my life trainings is have the financial mindset journal. Write down how you really think about money, what comes up in a money conversation. Do you keep up with the Joneses? Are you okay with somebody else having something financially better than you? Do you want something financially more satisfying in your life? It could just be that you just want ease, financial ease in your life. Just start jotting down any time you hear the word money or you hear the word multiple six figures, a million dollars. What does that bring up for you and just get real with how you’re relating to it because that is probably the number one shift that happens for people when they start to realize what’s come up for them.

And we’re taught in an early age that … I know you and I alluded to a little bit, but we’re taught from a young age. So, really just get in line with where you are financially in your mind. Second thing is to get some sort of money working for you. As entrepreneurs and business owners, we tend to want to really spend money in our business and it’s great to want to increase the value of your business over time and increase your income. But if we’re not getting money working for us, all of that work and all of that hard effort is turning around for not 10 years down the line. We want to get some money for working for us.

And the third thing is to really have a goal in mind, a tangible goal that you can achieve that you can set the intention and you can put a plan in place. Those would be my top three go-to’s right now. It’s just have mindset, have the plan, get it working for you, tangible. And third just, oh my goodness, just know that you can do it. You can do it, you can get money working for you. Money is an incredible tool for building wealth over time. It doesn’t have to be this scary thing or just this bill-paying object. Get money that’s actually working for you. Those would be my three go-to’s.
