987 Krystal Popov: Raising Futurepreneurs
Why Entrepreneurial Mindset and Skills are Vital in an Uncertain AI World
The world is changing faster than most people can adapt. Job security was already a relic of the past even before the advent of AI, and our education system is not preparing kids for this uncertain future where entrepreneurial skills are becoming increasingly vital.
One thing entrepreneurship teaches you is how to navigate uncertainty with confidence, how to turn failure into feedback, and how to find your creative purpose.
Krystal Popov has made it her mission to “Futurepreneur” kids – teaching them the creativity, nimbleness and grit they will need to navigate a new world order.
This is, I admit, a topic close to my heart, speaking as a 5-time founder and mom who is now helping her 19-year-old son build his first business. Finn is using and innovating with AI to bring people closer together for IRL community belonging with his platform for dog owners called TailsTrails.
Today we talk about what parents can do to help their kids learn how to create, problem solve, and develop the flexible and curious mindset that can guide them through fast-changing times. Krystal and I share the challenges—and the joys—of raising entrepreneurial kids, the importance of real-world experience versus academic credentials, and why fostering creativity, confidence, and grit is the best investment you can make in your child’s future
Krystal shares her journey from an unfulfilled engineer in the corporate world to building multiple successful businesses—including Tucson’s largest coworking space—and ultimately finding her true calling: teaching kids how to start, build, and thrive in their own businesses.
You’ll hear how Krystal’s own experiences as a mom and a business owner inspired the creation of FuturePreneur’s “business-in-a-box,” a hands-on toolkit designed to fill the critical gap left by traditional education. We talk about why skills like innovation, problem solving, and sales have never been more vital for young people, especially in an age where AI is rapidly reshaping the world of work.
Plus, you’ll hear practical tips for parents and educators, inspiring stories from young entrepreneurs, and how you can access free resources like the lemonade stand business blueprint.
🔑Key Takeaways🔑
🚀💡 Why Kids Need Entrepreneurship Now More Than Ever: It’s not just about creating the next tech unicorn; kids need the confidence, resilience, creativity, and problem-solving skills entrepreneurship demands, and these superpowers are not taught by the school system.
💼 ✨Business in a Box: How Futurepreneur gives kids hands-on experience—everything from opening a bakery and learning about pre-orders and packaging, to launching dog walking or T-shirt design businesses using Canva and AI. The biggest surprise? Parents are discovering their kids’ hidden talents and unique strengths along the way.
📝🛠️ Real Skills for Real Life: Entrepreneurship isn’t just about money skills, tactics and strategies: It’s about mindset. With Futurepreneur, kids build the confidence to iterate, innovate, and pursue their true purpose. They also learn to pitch, market, budget, take feedback, and—most importantly—develop grit and confidence to pivot and persevere so they can stand out in a future job market dominated by AI and automation.
💪🤔Start Young and Foster Curiosity: Why Futurepreneur focuses on kids between ages 8 and 12, while their creativity and curiosity are still high. Krystal says it’s vital to give them hands-on experience to develop grit, communication skills, and the confidence to try and even fail, plus it combats depression among so many youth.
